- "Hope you've got a steady trigger finger soldier, I need some covering fire!"
- — Shara Vayle
Mission 7 is the third mission of Act II. The Empire discovered the Rebels' secret base on Hoth and has begun a full-scale invasion of the planet. X2 assists in the defense and evacuation of Echo Base.
Synopsis
The Imperial Army has already landed on Hoth and is marching towards Echo Base's forward defenses. X2 has to repair them and hold off the Imperial forces. Despite X2's efforts, the Imperials are getting closer to the shield generator, using AT-STs to take out any opposition. It is up to X2 to clear a path for the Rebels. Afterwards, X2 has to use a Snowspeeder and stop an AT-AT using a tow cable. Meanwhile, however, the Rebels lose contact with the Ion Cannon room, forcing X2 to recapture it, and grant Rebel transports safe passage. With the Rebels having almost evacuated Hoth, X2 has to escort the final transport in a X-wing. Upon completion, Shara informs X2 that the disabled Star Destroyer was tracking that transport the whole time. With their combined efforts, X2 and Shara destroy the Star Destroyer, now having little time to escape. However, during his escape, X2 finds X1, confirming X2's belief that X1 survived. This meeting was short-lived, however, as they head their own ways, having close to no time left to escape the ship. Finally, X2 and Shara make their escape in their X-wings, with the Star Destroyer exploding in the background.
Objectives
Mission Intro - Scripted Cutscene
X2 and Shara are sauntering through the Echo Base front hangar, waxing lyrical about the battle ahead.
Maintain The Forward Defenses
The Imperial Army has already landed on Hoth and is marching for Echo Base's forward defenses. X2 begins in the tunnels of Echo Base and heads outside urgently. Hurried along by his fellow rebels and tannoy announcements, X2 emerges from the forward pillboxes of Echo Base to see four already damaged turrets taking a beating from the Imperial forces. X2 must repair them as well as hold off the Imperial forces. At least one must survive.
Maintain all Forward Defense Turrets
By preventing the Imperials from destroying any of the turrets, X2 will create a stable battlefront.
Escort Reinforcements to the Shield Generator to hold back the Scout Walkers
X2 is warned that the Imperials are advancing too far and that the troops needed elsewhere. X2 hops on a Tauntaun and leads a few good men to the shield generator. Once there, two AT-STs must be destroyed to hold back the advance.
Take out an AT-AT to assist the Rebels
While the AT-STs were being dealt with, the AT-ATs made significant progress towards the shield generator. X2 quickly heads to Echo Base, gets a Snowspeeder and uses the tow cable to bring down an AT-AT.
Use the Ion Cannon to disable Star Destroyers
With the Imperials advancing ever forward, X2 is told the Rebels have lost comms with the ion cannon room. He must head there and use the Ion cannon to attack the Imperial Star Destroyers in space. After returning to the main Echo Base hangar, he secures the ion cannon room and uses it to stun three Star Destroyers. By doing this, he gives a Rebel Transport enough time to escape.
Escort the final Rebel Transport
Shara informs X2 there is only one more transport remaining to leave Echo Base and that he should use an X-wing to escort it into space. Leaving from the ion cannon, he notices Darth Vader is inside Echo Base and quickly heads to the rear hangar to obtain an X-wing. Flying into space, he protects the Rebel Transport from enemy fire until it jumps to hyperspace.
Destroy the Rebel Databanks
X2 must destroy two computers in order to stop the Imperials from stealing the secrets of the Alliance.
Board the Disabled Star Destroyer
Once the Rebel Transport has jumped to hyperspace, Shara informs X2 that the Star Destroyer they disabled earlier seems to have been tracking the transport, so he needs to board it and destroy it from the inside. Landing inside the hangar, he is joined by Shara.
Take out the attacking Imperial Fighter craft
The path to the Star Destroyer is defended by many TIE Fighters. Taking out five will make landing easier.
Deactivate the Reactor Containment Shield
Now inside the vessel, X2 heads to the bridge to lower the reactor’s shield. Passing through the medical and turbolaser rooms, he reaches the bridge and destroys the shield controls.
Destroy the Star Destroyer's Main Reactor
With the shield disabled, X2 fights his way to the reactor room and destroys the reactor.
Rescue the Rebel Prisoners
On the way to the reactor room, X2 passes through the prison block. Destroying the five cell control panels will free the captured Rebels.
Escape from the Exploding Star Destroyer
With the reactor destroyed, X2 must quickly escape the ship before he goes down with it. On the way to the hangar, he encounters X1. It has been a long time but there is no time for talking. X1 uses the Force to push him away and leaves to escape the Star Destroyer. X2 gets back to the main hangar and escapes in his X-wing.
Mission Outro - Scripted Event
X2 looks back at the exploding Star Destroyer.
Trivia
- X2 uses snow camouflage in this mission.
- The disabled Star Destroyer is named 'Avarice'. This is seen in the March 2008 build and the DS version.
- It is uncertain if X1 fights X2 during the final objective. While there are voicelines for it in the March 2008 build and there is a battle in both PSP and DS versions, the June 2008 story overview only mentions 'a brief encounter'. Note that Shara is not inside the Avarice in the portable versions.

Tauntaun Trainer: I’d never even heard of a Tauntaun until we arrived on this ice planet. We needed to establish a network of life-form sensors around the perimeter of Echo Base. Alliance technicians were still having difficulty adapting our repulsorlift speeders to the sub-zero temperatures. I had grown up nerf herding on Alderaan, so I was given the task of training these wild snow lizards. For reasons that are completely unjustified, nerf herders are often labeled as uneducated simple folk. Never underestimate a nerf herder.
Tauntaun Trainer: The first thing you find out about a Tauntaun is that they smell, bad. It’s not a problem outdoors. On Hoth it’s too cold to smell anything. If you can stand the smell to get close enough, the next thing you usually find out is that they spit. I wouldn’t call them the most intelligent creatures in the galaxy but they are faithful companions once trained. At this point, I think I am even starting to understand some of those gurgling noises that they make.
